Lady Hornets fall to NEB, 9-7.

An 8-run 4th inning by Northeast Bradford was to much for the Wellsboro Varsity Softball team to overcome in a 9-7 loss on Saturday, April 24.

"The competition is fierce in the NTL this season," head coach Ron Brought said. "We know every game is going to be a battle. We have done an excellent job of getting up early in many of our games. Tonight though, we couldn’t overcome a big 4th inning by Northeast. We were competitive and will keep working to limit other teams from scoring when we have the lead."

The Lady Hornets took an early lead with 2 runs in the 2nd inning by senior Jena Boyce and junior Emma Coolidge. Wellsboro then added 4 more runs in the top of the 3rd as senior Chelsie English, sophomore Madaline Bordas (double), senior Jessa Lohr, and sophomore Rylie Boyce all scored the give the Lady Hornets a 6-0 lead. Northeast's 8-run 4th inning put them in front 8-6, then they added another run in the bottom of the 5th to make it a 9-6 game.

Wellsboro attempted a rally and added a run in the top of the 6th on a solo home run by senior Kerrah Clymer, but they couldn't muster any more runs.

Clymer's home run gives her 6 on the season, tying her with Maggie Smith (2013) for most home runs in a single season, and 12 for her career, also tying her with Smith.

The Lady Hornets had 8 hits at the plate on the afternoon, led by sophomore Jordyn Abernathy with a pair of singles and 2 RBIs. Clymer, Lohr, Bordas, Jena Boyce, English, and Coolidge added the other hits. Lohr also had 2 RBIs on the afternoon.

Clymer pitched a complete game in the loss, allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 7-3 (4-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action tomorrow afternoon against Sayre.
