Junior High Lady Hornets Split With Wyalusing.
 

Wellsboro's Junior High Softball team returned from the long trek over to Wyalusing with one win and one loss on Thursday, May 2.

Wellsboro took the first game 12-8 and Wyalusing won the second, 9-7.

In the first game the Lady Hornets rallied after trailing 6-0 in the first inning. Wellsboro began chipping away at the lead with two runs in the top of the 2nd, but still found themselves trailing 7-2 after the 2nd inning. Wellsboro's bats came alive in the 3rd and 4th innings with 4 runs each inning. Wellsboro trailed 7-6 after the 3rd then took the lead at 10-7 following the 4th. Wellsboro scored two more runs in the top of the 5th and help the Lady Rams to just a run in the bottom half of the inning to hold on for the win.

Adelyn Frantz led Wellsboro at the plate, going 4-for-4 with 3 runs scored. Kaylee Frazier also had a perfect night at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored. Genevieve Fleming and Delaney Morral were both 2-for-4 and scored 2 runs apiece, Teagan Novinger was 2-for-3 with a run, and Hannah Taylor, Rylee Coolidge, Luisa Crocco added solo hits.

Fleming threw one inning, allowing 6 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks while Frantz collected the win, allowing 2 runs on 1 hit with 4 walks and 10 strikeouts.

Game two was neck-and-neck between the two teams. Both teams scored 4 runs in the 1st and one run in the 2nd to be at a 5-5 stalemate heading into the 3rd. Both teams were scoreless in the 3rd, but Wyalusing scored 2 runs in the 4th to take the lead. The young Lady Rams scored twice more in the top of the 2nd to increase their lead to 9-5. Wellsboro got 2 runs back in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Madalynn Flannery led Wellsboro in game two, going 4-for-4 with 2 runs scored. Ariel Acevedo collected two hits and drove in two runs while Shayla Hamblin, Isabella Dean, Paityn Biery, Riley Kilburn, and Haylie Smith collected solo hits. Emaleigh Hamblin, Dean, Biery, Kaitlyn Owlett, and Kilburn scored the rest of Wellsboro's runs.

Paige Browning threw an inning, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Smith came on in relief for the final four innings, allowing 5 runs on 11 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts.

Wellsboro (5-6) hosts Towanda on Wednesday.
