The Wellsboro Varsity softball team dropped a game Thursday night to South Williamsport, 6-2.

The game was the Lady Hornets' third this week and second in a string on back-to-back-to-back games of the 2013 regular season. After scoring 14 runs in the first two games of the week, the Lady Hornets' offense stumbled as they left 7 base runners stranded, and were only able to produce 4 hits on the night, one of which was a triple by Junior Maggie Smith.

For South Williamsport, the win gives them a little redemption from last season's playoff loss to Wellsboro as they finished their regular season.

"I'm sure they had incentive after last year's game," said head coach Greg Carr. "Today they were the victorious ones so hat's off to them.

"Our kids are fighters. They are young, but they're fighters. They won't quit," concluded Carr.

Freshmen Alexa Singer, Jenny Young, and Sarah Ingerick had the remaining 3 hits at the plate, while Smith and Young had RBI's to score Singer and Senior Mackenzie Marple.

Singer started on the mound for the Hornets, going the first 2 2/3 innings, giving up 5 runs (3 earned), 5 hits, and 2 walks to go with one strike out on 55 pitches. Junior Brooke Kohler came on and finished the game out, only surrendering one run on 3 hits and 54 pitches.

With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 12-6 (7-1 NTL West). The team will be back in action on Friday, May 17 as they host Coudersport to finish the regular season.
