Canton falls to South Williamsport 13-1 in season opener.

2014 Canton vs. South Williamsport SoftballCANTON - Canton fell to South Williamsport 13-1 in their softball season opener Monday.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning but the Mountaineers went on to score 12 unanswered runs the rest of the way for the win.

Kellsy Ross went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Canton while Lauryn Watkins (1-for-2) scored their run. Whitney Bailey and Lacey Castle also had hits for the Warriors.

Ross earned the loss, going four innings to strike out two while allowing seven hits, three earned runs and three walks. Kayla Ward came on in relief, allowing six hits, four earned runs, two walks and four strikeouts.

Lizz Cummings went 3-for-3 with two runs and 6-RBI to lead the Mountaineers while Alanna Herrera (2-for-4), Anna Steer (2-for-4) and Sabrina Mussare (2-for-3) also had multiple hit games.

Alana Stugart earned the win, going the distance with four hits, one earned run, five walks and seven strikeouts.

Canton won the JV game 7-4.
