2013 Troy vs. Central Columbia SoftballBLOOMSBURG - The season came to an end for NTL East champion Troy on Thursday as the Trojans lost 7-0 to Central Columbia in District 4, Class AA quarterfinal softball action.

Two runs in the first and four more in the third inning, helped by three straight Troy errors, helped the Blue Jays get the victory.

Paige Siegrist limited Troy to just two hits in the game, striking out two and walking one.

Kelsey Bristol, Tiffani Mattocks and Kara Schucker had the three hits for Troy, one in the third inning and one in the fourth.

Mattocks got a hit in the seventh to try and start a rally, but Siegrist again got out of the jam.

In the third inning a double-play ended the threat and in the fourth the Trojans had their best chance as Taylor Johnston reached on an error, putting two on, but Siegrist got out of the jam.

Schucker pitched for Troy, striking out one in the game.

Central's two first-inning runs came on a Marissa Shelhamter home run and the big third inning was keyed by the errors.

"We just got outplayed today, we just got outplayed, pretty simple, I think offensively and defensively," Troy coach Brian Canfield said.

While Siegrist wasn't overpowering, she kept the Trojans in check all game.

"I think she only had two strikeouts, but we only had three hits," Canfield said. "You don't win many games when you don't score, they just played better than we did today. I'm proud of our kids, we had a good year, no one likes to end on a loss but most teams will."
