Towanda uses big bats to top Athens.

TOWANDA - Towanda used a 6-run second innings to beat Athens 11-5 in NTL Division-I softball action Wednesday.

Athens led 2-0 after the first inning but Towanda made it 7-2 after the top of the third.

In the bottom of the fourth the Wildcats got three more back to cut it to 7-5 but a 4-run seventh put the Lady Knights up for good.

"A big win," said Towanda coach Stan Siberski. "A good recovery after our last game, that was a rough outing. Our pitchers came back and we hit the cover off the ball. The best hitting game we've had at Towanda since I've been there."

It was all facets of the game that the Knights were doing, well, though.

"Defensively we threw a couple girls out at home," remarked Siberski. "It was an all-around great game. Gabby Larcom had a couple great catches."

Justine Vargason had four hits, including a double, with a run scored to lead Towanda while Madi Doss had three hits with two runs.

Shaelyn Chandler, Sydney Schoonover and Larcom each had two hits while Larisa Teerry, Rachael Bair and Hannah Chandler also had hits. One of Larcom's hits was a double.

McLinko and Larcom both scored twice while Shaelyn Chandler, Bair, Schoonover and Hannah Chandler also crossed home.

Emily Dunn started and earns the win, going 4 2/3-innings with one strikeout and five runs.

Terry finished out, going 2 1/3-innings with one strikeout.

For Athens Haley Berry had two hits with a run scored while Emma Adams and Aubrey Allen each had a hit with a run. Morgan Ferguson and Mimi Martin both scored as well.

Adams started and went six innings with no strikeouts. Megan Bennett pitched the final inning with one strikeout.

Towanda will host Tunkhannock Friday.

North Penn-Liberty 2, Wyalusing 1

The Mountaineers got a timely double play from Lauren Smith in the seventh inning to hold on for the NTL Division-I softball win Wednesday.

NP-Liberty scored in the third and the sixth to take a 2-0 lead when Wyalusing cut it to 2-1 in the seventh.

They looked to add to the run total with runners on the corners with one out when a popped up bunt attempt was caught by a diving Smith. The third baseman then threw out the Ram's runner on first base to end the game.

Carmen Bates had a double and run scored for the Mountaineers while Brooke Harvey had a single and crossed home.

Savanah Doney had an RBI at the plate and in the circle she struck out six and allowed five hits to get the win.

Melody Kneller had a double for the Rams while Sarah Bird, Daphne Fassett, Trinity Kipp and Miranda Herbert also had hits.

Kyleigh Ward took the loss for Wyalusing.

Wellsboro 9, Troy 0

Alyssa Yungwirth went 2-for-4 with two hits and two runs scored to lead the Hornets to the NTL softball win Wednesday.

She also started and scored the win, going the first five innings to strikeout nine while allowing four hits.

Tiana Lecker was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for Wellsboro while Cathryn Brought, Sydney Tremper, Kaytee Kemp and Brianne Keane also had hits.

Tremper, Keane, Kailee Clymer, Kemp and Lauren Singer all scored while Brought, Keane, Clymer and Lecker each had an RBI.

Brought pitched the final two innings, striking out three while allowing one walk and one hit.

For Troy Nicole Spalding, Riley McClellan, Erika Johnston, Gabby Cory and Madison Alexander all had hits.

Caitlyn Hoffmann started and went six innings, striking out seven while allowing seven hits, five walks and nine runs, five of them earned.

Vanessa Watson pitched an inning, striking out two.

Canton 8, Sayre 1

A 4-run third inning pushed the Lady Warriors to the NTL Division-II softball win Wednesday.

Canton led 1-0 after the first but Sayre scored in the top half of the second to knot the game at 1-all.

A four run third put the Warriors up 5-1. Then in the sixth they tacked on three more runs to secure the win.

Lauryn Watkins went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI to lead Canton while Brooke Ward was 2-for-4 with two runs. Evelyn Katona had 2 hits, with a triple and a run scored for the Warriors.

Hannah Gilliland and Joslyn Spencer both had doubles while Makayla Wesneski had a hit.

Hailey Wesneski scored twice while and Spencer also crossed home.

Hailey Wesneski, Gilliland and MacKayla Wesneski each knocked in a run.

Katona notched the win, striking out six while allowing three hits, one walk and one earned run on 81 pitches.

For Sayre Camryn Brown was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Makayla Mullen was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Kaitlynn McCarter earned the loss, striking out four while allowing eight hits and one walk but just one earned run out of the eight. She threw 84 pitches.

NEB 4, CV 3

The Panthers got a home run from Katie Boardman and Jaycee Brown had two doubles and scored a run in the win.

McKenna Wheaton had a hit and Annie Williams had two RBI.

Megan Brown had a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Gabby Slater had a hit and scored a run.

Williams pitched three innings, striking out one and allowing four hits and one unearned run and Slater struck out three and allowed two hits and two runs, one earned, in four innings.

Julia Draper struck out two and allowed six hits and four runs, three earned, for CV.

Madi Lee had two hits, with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Karmen Short had a double for CV.

Amaya Walker had a hit, an RBI and a run scored and Draper and Emma McClaren had hits, while Brynn Williams scored a run.
