NEB edges NP-Liberty in extra innings to stay unbeaten.

LERAYSVILLE — NEB's undefeated season has had some close calls but none closer than against NP-Liberty in NTL softball action Wednesday.

They needed a Danielle Moore solo home-run to force extra innings, then needed to rally from 2-runs down in the eighth to pull out the 4-3 win.

NP-Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Lauren Smith scored on an error off the bat of Emily Strange.

Then in the bottom of the sixth Moore tied it up at with a solo-home run.

In the top of the eighth NP-Liberty loaded the bases with no outs. Brooke Harvey led off with a double, then reached third on an Abby Heatley bunt.

NEB tried to get Harvey at third but the throw was late, allowing Heatley to take second base.

Britta Berguson walked to load the bases.

After Gabby Slater got a strike-out Lauren Smith stepped up, hitting a 2-RBI single to put the Mountaineers up 3-1.

NEB then got a double-play to get out of the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning back to back singles by Slater and Williams put runners on first and second. They moved up a base on a pass ball.

Moore then knocked Slater in on a fielder's choice while also moving Williams to third.

Katie Boardman then hit in Williams to tie the game up at 3-3.

The Panthers then proceeded to load the bases with Taya Howell bringing in Boardman for the win.

Howell (2-for-3), Kenzie Haight (2-for-4) and Slater (2-for-4) all had multiple hits in the game. Moore had the home run for her lone hit while Megan Brown, Williams, Hannah Dum and Boardman also had hits, with Boardman's a double.

Slater got the win, going all eight innings and throwing 119 pitches to strike out six while allowing four hits, three walks and three runs, two of them earned.

Brooke Harvey went 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Mountaineers while Smith and Savannah Doney had the other hits.

Doney scores the loss, striking out three while allowing 11 hits, one walk and four runs, three of them earned.

Wyalusing 8, Canton 7

The Rams won another close game on Wednesday, their second straight 1-run win this week.

Wyalusing jumped out 3-0 in the top of the first but Canton came back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Rams scored two more runs in the fourth to go up 5-2 but Canton briefly took a lead in the bottom half of the inning when they put four runs up to go up 6-5.

Wyalusing added two more in the fifth to make it a 7-6 lead.

Then in the top of the seventh Wyalusing got a big insurance run when Trinity Kipp scored on an error off the bat of Sarah Bird to make it 8-6.

In the bottom of the inning Alexa Roy hit a 1-out single, then a Caitlin Pepper single put runners on the corners.

Sidney Wheeler's fielder's choice brought Roy one to cut it to 8-7 but Wyalusing was one out away from ending the game.

A Brooke Ward single put runners on first and second but the Rams were able to force Wheeler out at third base for the final out.

Erin Canfield was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Wyalusing while Melody Kneller had a double with 2-RBI.

Kate Epler, Kyleigh Ward, Kipp, Miranda Herbert, Bird and Autumn Dietz had the other hits.

Kipp scored four times in the game while Canfield crossed home twice. Kristie Epler and Bird also scored.

Herbert had 2-RBI while Bird also knocked in a run.

Ward got the win, striking out two while allowing 11 hits, two walks and seven runs, six of them earned.

Brooke Ward (2-for-4), Roy (2-for-3) and Pepper (2-for-4) had multiple hits on the day while Kelsey Griffin notched a double.

Watkins, Lacey Castle and Wheeler also had hits.

Ward and Watkins scored twice while Pepper, Wheeler, and Hailey Wesneski also scored.

Griffin had 3-RBI in the game while Watkins knocked in two runs. Wheeler and Evelyn Katona both got runs across.

Griffin started and went the first four innings, allowing six hits, three walks and seven runs, six of them earned.

Katona went the final three innings, striking out one while allowing three hits, two walks and one unearned run.

Cowanesque Valley 12, Towanda 9

CV pulled out an NTL softball win Wednesday.

Kayla Schauer and Karmen Short both went 2-for-3 while Maddy Hatch, Maddy Huyler and Madison Lee also had hits.

Hatch started and got the win, going 5 2/3-innings with two strikeouts, three walks and six hits.

Ashleigh Southard went the rest of the way, striking out one while allowing one walk and four hits.

Madi Doss went 3-for-3 with a double to lead Towanda while Bella Bartholomew was 3-for-4.

Justin Vargason had a triple with Sydney Schoonover, Larisa Terry and Jayde Parsons also getting hits.

Parsons started and went 2 1/3-innings with two strikeouts and seven walks.

Casey Hawley came on in relief and scores the loss, striking out three while allowing two walks.

Towanda will be at the Williamsport Tournament this Friday and Saturday.

Wellsboro 12, Williamson 0, 5 innings

Darci Warriner hit a home run while Sarah Ingerick was 4-for-4 as the Hornets picked up an NTL softball win Wednesday.

Warriner was 2-for-2 with 5-RBI and a run scored while Ingerick added 3-RBI and two runs scored for Wellsboro.

Sydney Tremper was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Alexa Singer was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Kailee Clymer was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Also for the Hornets Alyssa Yungwirth had a hit while Emma Poirier scored three times.

Yungwirth got the win, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out 10.

For Williamson Makayla Butz broke up the no-hitter in the fourth.

Emma Durst, Sarah Bates and Emylee Yusko all pitched for the Warriors. They combined for four strikeouts, 13 hits, 12 runs and five walks.
