NEB edges Canton; ND, Waverly, Tioga earn IAC wins.

Back to back triples by Katie Boardman and Hannah Dum pushed Northeast Bradford past Canton 2-3 in NTL Division-II softball action Monday.

It was 1-1 after the first inning with neither team scoring again until the top of the sixth.

Then Brooke Ward doubled for Canton then scored on a Maggy Machmer sacrifice fly to make it 2-1 Warriors.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Panthers found their bats.

With two outs, McKenna Wheaton singled with Hailey Fisher coming in to run for her.

Boardman then tripled, allowing Fisher to score and knot the game up at 2-2.

Dum followed with a triple to score Boardman which put NEB ahead 3-2, and from there they held on for the win.

Dum was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Wheaton also had two hits.

Annie Williams had a double while Megan Brown and Danielle Moore had singles. Brown also scored.

Gabby Slater went the distance for the win, striking out six while allowing seven hits and two earned runs.

For Canton, Brooke Ward was 3-for-3 with a triple, double and two runs scored, while Evelyn Katona was 2-for-3 with a double.

Lauryn Watkins and Sidney Wheeler also had hits. Watkins and Machmer had the RBIs.

Machmer went six innings in the loss, striking out one while allowing three earned runs.

Notre Dame 13, Candor 1

Notre Dame broke open a close game late as they picked up an IAC softball win Monday.

Scoreless through the first three, both teams got a run in the fourth. The Crusaders added two more in the top of the fifth to make it 3-1 before scoring five runs in the sixth and seventh to pull away.

Mackenzie Maloney was 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored and an RBI for Notre Dame while Mackenzie Mahajan went 3-for-5 with two runs and 2-RBI.

Ally Witchtowski was 2-for-4 with two runs while Morgan Cox and Maura Glovins both went 2-for-4 with one run scored.

Alivia Clark and Jordyn Fargo each had a home run with 2-RBI and a run scored.

Isabel Milazzo and Courteney Crater also had hits. Milazzo added 2-RBI with a run scored.

Chase Leonard scored a run while Hannah Mahon added an RBI.

Clark started and went 6 2/3-innings for the win, striking out 10 while allowing tow hits, seven walks and one earned run.

Milazzo pitched the final out, a strikeout.

Waverly 9, Watkins Glen 1

The Wolverines got big innings in the first and fifth to pick up the IAC softball win Monday.

They scored three in the top of the first then four more in the fifth while adding one each in the sixth and seventh.

Watkins Glen got their run in the sixth.

Zoe Mennig went 3-for-4 with a double and triple while adding three runs and 2-RBI; and Shailei Kraft went 2-for-4 with a double and triple while crossing home twice to lead Waverly.

Wendi Hammond was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and 2-RBI; Kendra Ellers was 2-for-4 with a run scored and 2-RBI; while Anna Smith had a hit.

Kalie Herriman added a run scored.

Hammond went the distance in the win, striking out nine while allowing two hits, three walks and one unearned run.

Tioga 17, SVE 1

The Tigers pounded out 12 hits to win their season opener in IAC softball action Monday.

Sam Wood led the charge at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, four runs scored and 3-RBI; while Britt Vergason was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Katelynn Stubbs was 2-for-4 with two runs, Mariah Culver had a double with three runs and an RBI, while Sarah Hollenbeck, Megan Godfrey, Morgan Babcock and Taylor Ayres also had hits.

Godfrey, Hollenbeck, Babcock and Ayres also scored with Godfrey adding 2-RBI and Hollenbeck knocking in a run.

Wood started and went three innings for the win, striking out seven while allowing two walks, one hit and one unearned run.

Culver went the final two innings with six strikeouts and four walks.

"Glad to get a game in before (Edison)," said Tioga coach Heather Klossner. "The girls played well and we had the chance to work on a few things. Sam and Mariah threw well for not being on a mound in two weeks."
