Redskin softball, baseball pick up wins.

2012 Sayre vs. Millville SoftballMILLVILLE - With a young team Sayre softball coach Chris Cooney was hoping to build some confidence with Saturday's game.

After beating Millville 23-2 they should be feeling pretty good.

"It was good," Cooney remarked.

Leading 9-2 after two innings the Redskins poured in 14 runs in the third to take the game in three innings.

"We were aggressive at the plate in the last inning," Cooney explained.

Kelly Villanti and Des Waltman both went 3-for-3 for the Redskins. Villanti had four runs, three RBI and a double while Waltman added four runs and four RBI.

Kaitlyn Tappan and Kirstyn Tappan both went 2-for-3. Kaitlyn had four runs and and a RBI while Kristyn ahd three runs and three RBI.

Brooke Wampole went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI while Rachel Hurley had a hit in her lone at bat with a run and three RBI.

Maria Servedio added three runs and an RBI, Shelby Coolbaugh had two runs with three RBI and Stacie Sullivan pitched in with two RBI.

In the circle Kirstyn Tappan scored the win, striking out nine with five walks, one hit and two earned runs in three innings of work.

Sayre will host Bucktail Monday.

Baseball

Sayre 17, Millville 0

MILLVILLE - The Redskins began their season with an explosive offensive effort in baseball action Saturday.

They scored six in the first inning, followed by two in the second. Then they ended the game in the third with nine runs.

Cody Ketter went 4-for-4 for Sayre while Joe Kozemko went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Alex Lyons, also the winning pitcher, was 2-for-3 with a double.

Millville's only hit came from Aaron Solomon, who was 1-for-1 with a double.

The second part of the double header was rained out with Sayre up 4-1 when the storm struck.
