Wyalusing softball began their season with a split at the Old Forge tournament Sunday. They pounded their way past Old Forge 12-1 in five innings but then fell 4-1 to Lackawanna Trail in the nightcap.

"We have a lot of potential," Ram's coach Jack Loomis said. "Our young kids played very well."

Wyalusing used a 7-run fifth to secure the first win over the hosts.

Kasey Devoir was 3-for-4 on the day while Laci Holdren, Arielle Kneller, Lauren Chadwick and Madeline Eberlin had one hit each. Holdren and Kneller had doubles.

Ali Devoir, Kneller and Chadwick scored two runs each in the game while Eberlin also crossed home.

Emily Faulkner got the win, striking out 10 while allowing just four hits, no walks and one earned run.

In the second game a three run fifth inning by Trail proved the difference.

Holdren, Ali Devoir, Kneller, Chadwick, Faulkner and Brittany Smith all had hits for Wyalusing with Devoir's a triple.

In the circle Faulkner took the loss, striking out five while allowing three walks and six hits. She only had one earned run.

Loomis was pleased with how his younger talent played.

"I thought Emily Faulkner really did a nice job on the mound for us," he explained. "The Devoirs played very well, both very good base runners and have a very good eye at the plate. Both are going to be big assets to our team. Brittany Smith is another young player whose good at the plate."

However, he knows if they go any where this season it will have to be their upperclassmen that lead them.

"I'm really counting on them to come through and show some leadership," Loomis said.

The Rams will be in action next on Monday, April 9 when they host Athens at the start of NTL East play.
