2012 Alley Cats Tournament TeamHORSEHEADS - When they were younger, a number of the NTL softball players were members of the Alley Cats softball team.

This weekend, many of those same players joined the team one more time as the Alley Cats were reborn to compete in a tournament at Holding Point.

"A lot of us have played together before, a couple of years ago," Northeast Bradford's Calla Martin said. "It's been fun."

The team was made up of Northeast Bradford, Towanda and Athens players and they hadn't spent any time practicing together, going up against teams that play together every week.

"We worked well together," Athens' Mackenzie Hafer said.

"I thought we did pretty good," Alaina Wickwire added.

The players know that it shows a lot that they had success with little practice time.

"It shows how tough the NTL is," Wickwire said.

While the team is made up of players who starred for their high school teams, the girls were happy to play in this one tournament and not be travelling to tournaments all summer long.

"It's nice to not travel everywhere every weekend," Wickire said.

"It's nice to play in this," Northeast Bradford's Maddy Johnson said. "But, it's nice to not play every weekend and be able to enjoy the summer."

It was a little different for the NTL teams to join forces rather than square off against each other.

"It was actually a lot of fun," Martin said.

And, many of the players were able to get some practice at their normal positions, but not all of them.

"Most of us played where we normally play," Martin said.

"Not all of us," Hafer added. During the school year Hafer played mostly in center field, while she caught on Saturday.

"It was definitely different playing first instead of pitching," Wickwire added.

The team included Martin, Johnson and Northeast Bradford's Courtney Coleman, Monica Brown, Bridget Haverly and Cassie Martin. Wickwire and teammate Laci Manning from Towanda were on the team and Hafer, Jensen Dunkling and Katelyn Serfass of Athens played.

The team had success on the first day of the tournament Saturday, going 2-1, and they wrap up the tournament today.
