May, NEB pair head All-Region softball team.

2012 All-Region Softball TeamAs a sophomore Athens' Olivia May was the New York State, Class C Player of the Year and led Notre Dame to a state title.

This year as a junior the Crusaders fell in the sectional semifinals, but May had another strong year and is The Daily & Sunday Review All-Region softball player of the year.

On the mound May struck out 188 in 118 innings, with a 1.30 ERA. At the plate she hit .494 and scored a region-best 50 runs this year. She had 27 RBI, 12 doubles, three home runs and two triples.

In Pennsylvania the Northeast Bradford Panthers enter Thursday's PIAA quarterfinals with a perfect record and sophomore Chelsie Souto is a big part of the reason and is the All-Region pitcher of the year.

Souto was perfect on the mound during the regular season with a 1.58 ERA and 136 strikeouts.

Teammate Calla Martin is the defensive player of the year. Moving to shortstop this year she had a strong season with the glove, and also hit .422 with 25 RBI, a team-high six home runs and she scored 31 runs.

Towanda's Koryn Wickwire earns the silver slugger award as the offensive player of the year. She hit .528 on the year with six triples, four home runs, 35 RBI and 25 runs scored.

The newcomer of the year is Tioga eighth-grader Sam Wood. Wood was 11-4 in the regular season with a 1.58 ERA and 130 strikeouts on the mound. At the plate she hit .432 and scored 19 runs.

May, Souto, Martin and Wickwire are on the first team and they are joined there by Northeast Bradford's Kelsey Carlsen (.418, 5 home runs, 24 RBI, 25 runs), MaKaylah Holbert (.353, 20 runs, 3 triples) and Nicki Emick (.373, 26 RBI).

Alaina Wickwire of Towanda (11-6 on the mound, .328, 16 runs, 15 RBI at the plate) joins teammate Koryn Wickwire on the first team and Wyalusing's Laci Holdren (.492, 30 runs, 3 home runs) and Arielle Kneller (.4.84, 23 runs, 14 RBI) are each first team picks.

Notre Dame's Sydney Dimon (a region-best .630, 44 RBI, 26 runs, 19 doubles, 4 home runs) and Alivia Clark (.473, 23 RBI, 38 runs,

4 triples) are on the first team, along with Waverly's Sabrina Bowman (.463, 20 runs, 2 home runs) and Tioga's Raven Worthing (.455, 15 RBI, 24 runs) and Britt Vergason (.391, 24 RBI, 7 doubles).

Canton's Morgan Palmer (.592, 7 home runs, 33 RBI, 24 runs) and Chelsey Heatley (.393, 4 home runs, 22 RBI, 24 runs) are on the first team, along with Athens' Christin Dunkling (.333, 21 runs) and Mackenzie Hafer (.441, 25 RBI).

Wellsboro's Maggie Smith (.303, 8 RBI, 6 wins pitching) and Troy's Katie Jackson (.442, 19 runs) and Hannah Jackson (10-5, 105 strikeouts) round out the first team.

The second team includes Northeast Bradford's Maddy Johnson and Towanda's Michelle Aronson and Emily Gorman.

Notre Dame's Emily Lepkowski and Becca Saggiomo, of Athens, are on the second team along with Cowanesque Valley's Mikayla Andrews and Courtney Schauer and Liberty's Rachael Strange.

Athens' Alexa Daddona, Jenn Wells and Jensen Dunkling are on the second team along with Wyalusing's Kasey and Ally DeVoir.

Tioga's Bry Godfrey, Waverly's Stephanie Bellis and Williamson's Nicki Hurler are on the second team, along with Wellsboro's Brooke Kohler and Sayre's Kristyn Tappan and Troy's Cecilia Morse.

The third team includes Wyalusing's Emily Faulkner and Cathryn Pugh and Towanda's Tori Welliver.

Notre Dame's Sam Erbach and Detta Gublo are on the third team, along with CV's Shanelle Ianson and Michaela Meade and Liberty's Maddie York. Sullivan County's Addie Jordan is on the third team, along with Tioga's Wood.

Waverly's Carmella Ruth, Kiana Manuel and Cassidy Farr are on the third team, along with Williamson's Jamie Cook and Sierra Magnotta.

Northeast Bradford's Haylie Phillips is a third-team pick, along with Canton's Bridget Tracy and Athens' Katelyn Serfass.

Wellsboro's Jordan Butters and Breyann Campbell are on the third team ,along with Troy's Faith Ceely, Kara Schucker and Kayla Stephani and Sayre's Maria Servedio and Kaitlyn Tappan.

There are Gold Glove winners at each position and Saggiomo wins at first base, while Troy's Tiffani Mattocks wins at second base and Martin wins at shortstop. Arsonson is the winner at third base and Dimon is the winner behind the plate.

The outfield winners are Katie Jackson, Emiley Myers of Waverly and Johnson and Hannah Jackson is the winner among pitchers.

The all-rookie team is headed by Wood and includes Bellis and Sullivan County's Alyssa Blasi. Notre Dame's Mackenzie Maloney is on the rookie team along with Ally and Kasey DeVoir and Ceely.

Strange is on the rookie team, along with Tracy, Johnson and Jensen Dunkling. Tioga's Deanna Hutchison is on the rookie team, along with Ruth, Sayre's Kelly Villanti and Wellsboro's Butters, Lauren Bleggi and Paige Carr.
